At the moment, I’m thinking of making the next installment in the pirate series a little darker. I say right at the moment, because I revise–a lot. Until a story is submitted, it’s very much subject to change, or writer’s whim–if you prefer.
Bad boys hold a lot of appeal for me. At least in part, because of the redemption thing. So, the new pirate story I’m envisioning would have a small band of bad boys out to redeem themselves. All that would stand between each member of the crew and his personal goal would be the one woman he can’t resist….
I’m goofing off, so I can read whatever I please and this week what has pleased is romance.
Stephanie Laurens’ To Distraction, vintage Laurens. A trifle repetitive, but I love detail so not a big issue. This is a Bastion Club book. I’m looking for to the final story Royce’s journey to love.
Nalini Singh’s Hostage to Pleasure, the last of the psy/changeling series, so far. Branded By Fire is out next month though :)
What I particularly like about her stories is hard to pinpoint. The world building isn’t the main attraction, but it isn’t irritating. I like her characters, the conflicts are twisted and poignant, the prose is lush, vivid. Best of all, from my point of view, the focus is tight on the couple. There are outer problems, danger, and agonizing choices, but the couple is battling together against the rest of world. Except, of course, for a few close friends–this is a series.
One more blog about the website, and then next week I’ll get back to whining about writing.
I’m eliminating the garden posts. I haven’t lost interest in the garden, but it doesn’t relate to writing or books or romance–other than they are all things that I’m passionate about.
Of course, there’s a lot of sex going on in the garden, but other than for botanists and biologists and fellow gardeners its not really a site for voyeurs. For those missing their garden fix you can go here for your garden hook up. ;)
When I have the time, I’ll expand the new garden only blog to include more useful links, garden in process pics, and the like.
What do you all think? Is more focused a good thing or do you like the hodgepodge approach?
The first person, who has to get excited about one of my stories is me. Because, if I’m not enthusiastic about developing a book then it’s never going to happen. On the hundredth pass, it may well have lost all charm, even for its excited creator. But, it absolutely has to retain its glowing appeal for at least the first couple of drafts.
When I start to play with a concept, it’s normally a raw fragment–not even a scene. A compelling situation, sympathetic characters, and potential.
The first synopsis is always clunky. But, for me the story is unfolding in my head or it’s a no go. Even stories and character I adore, get set aside when a better plan looms on the horizon.
At the moment, part of me is living in another galaxy with my latest heroine cruising through space.
Joon has been banished from the planet Enyo for manipulating the Council of Elders. Though, technically guilty of the crime she was accused of committing, there are serious mitigating circumstances involved.
None of that matters now, since her vessel, with it’s small but very brave crew, is held captive by a docking beam, which has rendered the ship’s systems inoperative.
Did I mention they’re being inexorably pulled toward a Maldorean Ship? And, naturally that is the last place any of them want to go. Especially….
PS Joon’s Temptation is off to the lovely editor. Keep your fingers crossed for me that she likes it. ;)
