Even busy writers need a break now and then. And my favorite way to relax is with a good book.
Recently, I discovered Cynthia Eden–who has as fresh voice and an exciting approach to paranormal romance. Her latest, Midnight’s Master is on order.
I’m waiting patiently (for once). Because, I’ve got a stack of Patricia Briggs titles to tide me over. :) For those who don’t know her, here’s a link to her website. Patricia writes fantasy in several flavors and so far I like all of them.

I live a virtual life a great deal of the time. A natural product of my time– since, I grew up with computers. The strange part of this is phenomena is that the virtual stuff feels very real to me.
Technology shapes our lives in imperceptible ways, including reading. Here’s another thoughtful blog on the world of e-readers.
The comments are worth reading too…
So where do you stand on e-readers? Glued to your kindle, palm. of i-phone? Or holding on to the paper and ink versions, howling never?

In my fantasies someone else takes care of writing back cover copy, marketing campaigns, promotion–all those parts of selling stories that I’m not wonderful at, freeing me to dream up new stories and write away day after day.
Hasn’t happened yet. In the meantime I stumble along, trying my best. Readers, bless them, find me anyway. Bravely wading through my less than sparkling marketing attempts to buy my books.
Maybe, it’s okay to put the writing first. I suspect it’s one of those case by case kind of things.
What do you like/dislike about your job?

Here’s the back cover versions of the Pirate Rules blurb.

Zara needs all control stripped from her writhing, wanton body.
Hot-blooded Razor kidnaps Zara, cuffs her, and tortures her with erotic caresses. Playing Pirate and Captive with Razor may be the hottest hours of her life. Or it may be a lethal gamble with her heart. When the always-cautious Zara asks about the rules of game, she learns her new master only plays one way – Pirate Rules.

Six reasons I’m wild about my modern pirates
1) They’re bad
2) They’re dangerous
3) They’re fun in spite of being dangerous and bad
4) They have cool boats
5) They have tender hearts under all that big bad exterior
6) They’re into some kinky shit
What do you like about pirates?

There’s a short list of authors who’ve never disappointed me. Emma Holly is on the list, I indulge in her titles sparingly–since reading is a much faster process than writing.
When I’m reading one of her books, at the moment Prince of Ice , I always wonder why everyone else isn’t reading her too.

I’m not a maketing wiz, you already noticed–huh? But, for the beginning writer it’s self-promotion or darn little promotion. After all, who else is interested in getting your name and your books out there?
The books themselves are my best tool and therefore this blog is all about the books. Once in awhile I mention the obnoxious cat or the vain, yuppy dog, but for the most part it’s books, blah-blah-blah, and more books with a little writing craft and fan-girl reading tossed in for variety.
Sheila tells me real life is a good thing to blog about, but that’s because she’s laid back and her life is entertaining. I’m an obsessed writer–my characters lead far more entertaining lives than I do.
Despite my OCD tendencies, I’ll open minded. Go ahead and tell me what you’d like changed on this website. I promise to listen.

Absolutely my favorite part of writing is starting a new story. I love all the geeky pre-writing of plotting and planning, writing bios, making a new notebook, finding pictures that match the images in my head of the characters, and putting together a new playlist.
Maybe my subconscious knows about this weakness for mine. Because I get assaulted with new ideas all the time… The raw fragments of new worlds, new characters, and new situations arrive far faster than I can write. :(
My strategy for dealing with this abundance is to make notes of the ideas that zoom into my thoughts, and then shut them out gently, but firmly. After all, I can only listen to so many voices at one time. Usually, this works.
Now and then new characters arrive and refuse to leave quietly–I can fight them or I can give in and write their story. The latest coup cut off the pirates–so you know they’re total badasses….
I just hope they stick around. ;)
