Now that I’ve met the hero, and gleaned enough about him to understand why he’s like he is, I’ve been searching for the perfect woman for him. ;)
Lucky for him too, because he’s got a bad attitude and is destined to go through life alone without my help. Of course, he’d say that’s the way he wants it–but, I know that’s not true.
Pity this wonderful mind reading power I have with characters doesn’t work in real life. But, back to my search for the perfect heroine. I’m thinking she has to be a bit of misfit too, but a woman of courage, kindness, and honor. A woman capable of rocking his world….

The pirate series, is made up of erotic romance novellas. Pirate Rules is approximtely 28k–a length I really like. Short enough to keep the pace torrid, but long enough to fall in love.
For me the essences of these stories lie in their heroes. Master and commander types, who’ve been wounded by life, but cling to their personal sense of honor even when they’ve lost of everything else.
Naturally, I have to find each one of these dark heroes his own perfect woman, and then I arrange things so it’s impossible for them to fall in love. When they’ve struggled and won again the forces against them and found love–it’s still impossible for them to be together.
Is this a great job or what? ;)

Six stories I want to write–right now ;)
1) Pirate Games–good thing too, because it’s the one I’m actually working on
2) Demon and Dragons book two–maybe next, maybe not
3) Enyo Chronicles book three–or four or both, stories that exist only as fragments on the hard drive and in my head.
4) Wicked Desires the third wicked book, which actually is at least halfway written, but the vision blurred and I started to wonder if it were correctly labeled–maybe it’s part of some other series… Maybe it’s a single title. Darn good story where ever it belongs.
5) A series of feminine fantasies–short erotic romps…
6) Christmas Kisses, doesn’t even need to be written, more a deep revision…

Recently, I began reading Jessica Andersen’s Final Prophecy series and got hooked. The story is riveting. The world building, the conflicts, the characters–it’s all good.
Have you discovered any new authors lately?

As I write this, I have five titles on Fictionwise. This is ultra cool. So far, they’ve sold more of my books than any of the other e-book stores.
Yet, I don’t understand their classification system. Half of my titles have been classed as romance the other half as erotica. Ironically, the hotter books have been those labeled romance.
If I were a big dog author, this wouldn’t matter, because readers would be looking for my name and they wouldn’t be deterred by a little thing like which sub-genre the title carried.
The stories classed as erotica have out sold those labeled romance, by a lot. Since the stories are erotic romances, the sales results make sense.
A five book sample certainly isn’t enough for statistical conclusions.
The latest Fictionwise release, Dangerous Secrets is classified as an erotic romantic suspense! This is the perfect sub-sub-genre category for the story. This title is also my number one best seller. Marketing research continues…. ;)
Over on Amazon I have six Kindle titles with entirely different ratings. Wicked Games is my top seller on Amazon. Okay, I’m spending way too much time trying to understand ebook sales rankings. Back to writing, where at least I have some idea what I’m trying to accomplish.

My first job is simple–become as better writer. Currently, there are two aspects I’d like to get a whole bunch of better at–blurbing and characterization.
The synopsis for Pirate Games, or any of my manuscript begins with the one sentence version of the story. For me, this one sentence is the most labor intensive string of words in the whole process.
I’m sure there are authors that dash off pithy, provocative blurbs before breakfast. Probably, the same group that write 30 pages in a couple of hours and never revise. I’m happy for them, but I don’t want hear about it. :)

When I think about promoting and marketing the pirate series, I run into a problem. The pirate stories are set in current time, right here on earth.
The publisher labels them contemporary, but just the word ‘pirate’ conjours up tall ships, eye patches, and the Jolly Roger flying from the mast. Modern pirates brings up another set of images, closer to the series–but still not quite right.
As far as I know, I’m the only one writing modern pirate erotic romances. This won’t last if the stories go over with readers.
I’ve already seen another futuristic with the same story premise I used for Dalila’s Choice. A case of imitation being the sincerest form of flattery–or great minds think alike. But, I’m getting off track.
The problem is how to describe–briefly a sub-sub-genre story that’s new and different.
All suggestions are welcome.
