When’s the last time my local brick and mortar bookstore had a sale? Never. Maybe their business model prohibits it….
This week Fictionwise is having a huge sale! I’ve been stocking up with authors I’ve been wanting to try at half-price or less for books that were already a bargain. The sale ends this week. Hurry!
Real life heats up this time of year, so unless I have something really exciting to say, no regular blogging planned between now and News Years. I might pop in now and then, but mainly I’m off spreading joy…. And trying to keep the damn Christmas lights lit. :D

Have I finished the first draft I’m working on? Nope. I’m taking a break anyway. With a little luck, the characters will amuse themselves for a couple of weeks while I make merry. ;)

If the gracious editor smiles on my submissions, next year should bring more erotic futuristic stories, possibly a sexy contemporary, and maybe an hot paranormal. All of those characters are yelling in my head. Plus, there’s a bunch of others clamoring in the background.
With all that noise, it’s a wonder I ever manage a coherent sentence. ;)

Six things that say Christmas to me.
1) A Christmas tree loaded with decorations, some homemade, some heirlooms, and at least one new treasure.
2) A fire in the fireplace
3) Fat red candles the smell like fir trees, mulberry, and cinnamon
4) Christmas carols, both old and new
5) Dicken’s A Christmas Story–the book, of course ;)
6) Die Hard, the movie and the Long Kiss Goodnight–gotta off-set all that sweet sentiment or my teeth will rot
When you read ‘six-pack’ do you think of abs? Or beer? Or? Just one of those things that flit through my head.

Just thinking about moving made me hyper-aware of how cumbersome paper books are. I eyed the stuffed bookcases with the hard eyes of a woman who doesn’t want to schlep one extra box. Within days one full case was eliminated, the contents happily swelling the inventory of my favorite used bookstore.
The second decision was no more book purchases–at least for awhile–except for ebooks. Did you know that almost everything is available as an ebook? :)

December 10, 2009 | Real life
When I plan my year (yes I know that’s crazy), I plan to take a break for most of December. There’s a lot of extra real life going on between Thanksgiving and Christmas. I like all of it–the decorating, cooking, wrapping, Christmas cards, ballet, and holiday music.
Enjoying all the festivities and getting a manuscript done at the same time? Not so great.
Maybe next year, I’ll manage to wrap up writing around Thanksgiving. ;)

While I’m working on the second installment of the demons and dragons series, the holiday season reminds me that Christmas Kisses is still waiting for revision.
That story has made me aware how much I still need to learn. I know the story I want to tell, it’s about a dark hero–a loner, who longs for a family where he belongs–a family of his own. But, a lifetime of pain and loss have taught him no one can be trusted. It’s also about a ray of sunny hope heroine, who comes with a large, noisy, loving family.
Naturally, Dark and Sunny fall madly in love, despite, or because of, the emotional ocean between them.
Crossing that wide, turbulent sea is the tricky bit.

Over on Amazon I have a page of titles available. While seeing my books on Amazon is a thrill, they’re missing the cover for Pirate Rules, my current best seller. :(
Naturally, I’m enamored with the cover art, I think they’re fantastic. As a reader I have to admit a cover may catch my eye, but it’s the blurb that draws me in and the story that sells me.
Prior to e-publishing, I never gave a thought to who published a book. Certainly, I never browsed a bookstore’s shelves looking for a particular publisher’s line. E-publishing changed, not just the way I buy books, but the way I browse.
One of those changes is how I view cover art. If a cover intrigues me, I roll my little mouse over it and click to read the blurb, if the blurb entertains, I may put in my virtual cart right then, or I may go on the excerpt.
With Wicked Business scheduled for December release, I was hoping to share the cover in this post. Alas, no cover yet.
I know how busy and hard working my publisher is. So it’s understandable when the schedule changes. And I’m already nervous about my end of next year’s production. So I’m not going to whimper if Wicked Business becomes a 2010 release. Besides, I have three books on the lovely publisher’s front page.
Nope, no whimpering here.
