Real life

The other week, I shopped for groceries. Wandering off to the grocery store is definitely part of my real life. Although I’ve made the trip more times that I want to think about, it’s always different. The other shoppers are much more entertaining than the produce.
Watching couples, of all ages, is my favorite part. Best of all are those fully engaged with each other that I can study without being noticeably rude. Aside from the obvious differences of age, race, and gender, they fall into two groups–those that match and those who don’t.
The closely matched crowd have an easier connection. This makes sense to me. Hooking up with someone fundamentally similar to you works for those rare souls happy with themselves. The opposites attract group have a rockier road. This makes a stronger bond than the same types, but only if the lovers find the tricky balance that allows them to love and respect differences without compromising their own self worth.
Naturally, conflicted couples make better stories.
