Six stories I’d like to write right this minute:
1) The sequel to the still unnamed paranormal romance
2) The fourth Enyo Chronicle
3) The second Demons and Dragons adventure
4) Wicked Desires–the third wicked book
5) A voodoo urban fantasy thriller
6) A romantic suspense story with a terrific villain
Sadly, I can only write one at a time and only a few a year. Maybe someday I’ll get speedier.
Josh Lanyon blipped across my radar a few times before I actually bought one of his titles. The first glance happened at Loose ID, where The Dark Tide’s cover caught my eye. Over at The Naughty Bits, an entertaining and information blog–two factors that don’t always mesh–Mr. Lanyon’s covers flickered by on the top banner week after week. And then Mandi at Smexy Books (book reviews and more) recommended his stories, especially the Adrien English series.
First, let remove the element of suspense from this review. The entire series is carefully preserved for rereading on my virtual keeper shelf. Like most series, the five books are best read in order: Fatal Shadows; A Dangerous Thing; The Hell You Say; Death of A Pirate King; and The Dark Tide. Unlike most series, each book is better than the last, which is flat out amazing considering that the first is pretty damn enchanting.
On Mr. Lanyon’s website he describes his work as: “A distinct voice in gay fiction, multi-award-winning author JOSH LANYON has been writing gay mystery, adventure and romance for over a decade. In addition to numerous short stories, novellas, and novels, Josh is the author of the critically acclaimed Adrien English series, including The Hell You Say, winner of the 2006 USABookNews awards for GLBT Fiction. Josh is an Eppie Award winner and a three-time Lambda Literary Award finalist.”
The above is fine, as far as it goes. Personally, I’d drop the adjective gay. Then the copy would read even more accurately. The Adrien English series is romantic suspense; action packed, gripping, and poignant. The characters are sharp, the dialogue is crisp, the conflict intense, and the pacing taut.
What are you waiting for? Sally forth and buy the books.
Sunday night Louie (the cat) went out around midnight and didn’t come home.
He’s sixteen, slowing down and had recently developed a cough. I thought either he’d been hit by a car or he’d deliberately gone off to die. When Katie (the rowdy dog) and I walked around the neighborhood Monday, I feared finding his body. Yesterday, when we came home from the dog park I found him downstairs on the couch. One of his back paws was missing patches fur and skin and was double its normal size.
Though He purred when I pet him, considering how traumatized his leg was and that he wouldn’t eat or drink. I decided to purchase a cat carrier and take him to our vet the next day when they opened. I called my daughter to let her know I couldn’t do lunch on Wednesday, because I was taking Louie to the vet. She offered to bring a cat carrier and drive to the twenty-four hour emergency animal clinic. I hadn’t even thought of the emergency clinic.
Once at the clinic, the doc examined Louie and gave him pain meds and explained the realities of his injury. Considering his age and the extent of his trauma with no likelihood of good recovery, I made the decision to euthanize him.
I am a firm believer in quality of life and not prolonging suffering in animals or humans. I’m glad he was not mangled on a busy street or dying a slow death of dehydration in a nearby greenbelt. And yet, I’m so very sad he’s gone.
All the good things in life I try to be grateful for still exist, but today there’s no celebration in my heart. I ache for a crotchety old cat with disgusting personal habits. Vain, lazy, and a stone-cold killer of rodents and song birds, he also purred like the rumble of coming thunder, and warmed my lap every night.
Last week I thought I might be through the first draft by now. Nope. Not even close this story is going to be novel length, novel plus if I don’t watch it.
An erotic collection where women explore their darkest fantasies with men way too dangerous for the wicked games they want to play.
The new Wicked Anthology is now available in print!
Included in the collection are: Wicked Business; Wicked Games; and Pirate Rules. All three stories are erotic contemporary romances
with just a touch of suspense.

BTW, I’m over at Ali Katz blog, gushing. Come on over and join me.!
Six things I’m sure improve my writing:
1) Patience–mine is long with puppies and children, but woefully short when it comes proofing
2) Studying craft–there’s always more to learn
3) Reading good books–besides it’s one of my favorite things to do
4) Reading not so good books–sometimes it helps to learn what not to do
5) Writing–practice may not make perfect, but it does improve
6) Living–can’t draw water from an empty well
