Real life

May 13, 2010 | Uncategorized

As I write, there’s a post-it on my calendar, which reads: Doorknobs, grass seed, gloves, patches (2). It’s my hardware store shopping list and perfectly clear to me.

All too easily, I can imagine the note getting buried under subsequent calendar pages and months passing. Next January, before discarding the old calendar, I idly flip through the months. The modest list becomes a fiendish puzzle I squint at struggling to solve the mystery.

This kind of thing has happened before, a quick note jotted in the margin becomes meaningless a few days later. It’s bad enough that I have to write everything I want to remember down, now I have to worry about understanding my own jottings.

Note to self: file this post under losing my damn mind.
