Real life

Katie, the dog, and I go to the dog park at least once a week. The entrance we use has a double gate system. The park is popular and we often have to wait to enter.

Last week, a pair of women with half a dozen dogs between them were clogging the gates. I thought they were acting pretty inconsiderate.

Move their pack into the enclosure, get them leashed up and move on so Katie and I can play, was what ran through my head.

As we came closer, I heard them talking. Soon the problem became clear. They had untrained puppies without leashes because someone thought the dog park was a good place to drop their unwanted pets.

Animal abuse is not a whole lot different from child abuse in my mind. Dumping unwanted pets shouldn’t shock me, after all children get dumped. Yet I am appalled and my heart aches, because I can’t imagine being that callus, or maybe that desperate?
