Real life

As I type the rowdy diva dog is lying quietly on the office rug, snoozing peacefully. The very essence of a well-behave pup.

No one would even connect this quiet furry beauty with the wild beast I took to the vet the other day. She likes to go to the vet, she knows the entire staff and considers them special friends.

The door had barely latched behind us when she lunged for the receptionist’s counter. Balanced on her hind feet, she toppled a stack of newsletters, and some strange objects resting on a square of gauze. I reined in her leash, retrieved the newsletters and turned to rescue the gauze. From the corner of my eye I saw a rear leg lift (yes she is very butch for a diva) as she cozied up to a corner in the entryway. Even as I yelled and jerked, a delicate stream of urine splashed the wallpaper and molding.

Fortunately, the staff were good sports about everything. I grabbed paper towels and mopped up the puddle. The strange objects on the gauze turned out to be stones removed from a patient. All three were retrieved intact. After rearranging a few medical records and helping with their appointment book, she settled down for a little nap.

Ah, the joys of a well-trained pet.
