Real life

December 2, 2010 | Uncategorized

Last month A Scarlet Past was published direct to Kindle via Amazon’s Digital Platform. The story is still available for only 99 cents, just click here.

Here’s what I’ve learned:

The Amazon Digital Platform preview feature really is WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get). I looked before I pushed publish, but optimistically hoped the finished ebook would be a little nicer than the preview. Alas, the extra page between most chapters was still there.

Microsoft Word puts out a credible HTML document. A huge help.

Even with lots of help, I miss an editor’s talented hand smoothing my prose and a copyeditor’s fine eye for errors and blips.

The time between uploading the text and cover and going ‘live’ on Amazon is forty eight hours.

That readers are wonderful patient and generous.

Share the love, what did you learn today?
