Fan Girl Friday

February 4, 2011 | Fan Girl Friday

On the list of shocking things I’ve learned along the romance writing journey is the power of a really snarky review.

The book that opened my mind on this subject was a Blaze title, Highland Fling by Jennifer Labrecque. A disgruntled reader left a snippy disapproving review on Amazon. My brief recap gets hits more than three years after the original posting of the book report.

Like other authors, I’d much rather see a boost in sales because of raves. In fact I have a uber-hot fantasy built around that very subject, but the old adage about no publicity being bad publicity holds true.

Have you ever bought a book because of negative review? Were you disappointed in the story? Or did the reviewer seem to have some sort of personal agenda?
