WIP Wednesday

February 9, 2011 | WIP Wednesday

Writing has a lot in common with pregnancy to my way of thinking.

There’s the fun part–conception. A happy stage where creativity and excitement permeates the very air. This is followed by a dreamy, slow motion, phase where names are chosen, and proper settings selected. Next comes the exhausting business of actually building new life, accompanied by regular bouts of nausea and debilitating fatigue.

After months of this self-inflicted misery, an infusion of energy surges into the tired body and hours are spent scrubbing, fluffing, and polishing every aspect the new story. Release day arrives clamping the belly in a vice of pain. A few hours of unrelenting agony and the original joy of conception becomes a cruel joke. But then the world’s most beautiful new book is delivered to readers everywhere and the memory of all the work involved fades to nothing.

So how’s your job going?

Apparently my job’s going really dull compared to yours.
So, to write as well as you, I need to get knocked up.
This will require some thought, not to mention evolution.

    Hi, Evanne!

I do like a good analogy and while this one works for me,you may have to adapt and revise to make it work for you.
