Real life

March 17, 2011 | Uncategorized

Last month a friend posted a link the Stacia Kane’s blog post about edits. For those who’re interested here’s the link. From time to time I read Stacia, she’s entertaining and opinionated and funny. Qualities I admire in bloggers and authors.

I read and chuckled at her copy editing rant. I’ve been blessed with intense editing a time or two and there is an irritation factor.

My stories are the children of my twisted mind and I’m a protective mother. At the same time, I’m aware of how much better it is to have an editor point out the baby’s rash and warts than to wait for readers to titter politely behind their hands or worse screech about how they wasted their hard earned pennies on this worthless piece of digital ink.

Of course, I’ve been fortunate to work with gifted and caring editors, who obviously want my work to shine. Not all editors are created equal. And then, as with any relationship, the editor and the writer may simply not mesh smoothly. Same goes with readers and reviewers. I try to remember that when one of them doesn’t  love my story.

Speaking of real life, today I’m guest blogging at Bitten By Paranormal Romance, please stop by and say hi!
