June’s monthly contest at New Concepts Publishing officially ends tonight at midnight. Alas the contest details and readers responses were lost during the amazing website upgrade.
I am so sorry for the inconvenience. If you entered my contest, please leave me a comment on this post with the name of your pet (that makes sense to the missing contestants) along with your email. I’ll make sure y’all get a free PDF copy of Slave Market: Demons and Dragons Book Two!.
Deciding which story to work on next is always tough. I usually blame this problem on Swampy, the contrary muse, who whispers naughty suggestions about new stories at the most inconvenient times. Since I definitely suffer from the ooh-new-shiny-syndrome, I share the blame.
If I’m not excited about a concept, then it’s not getting written–at least not by me. But since I’m far more enthusiastic than I am discriminating, the problem of choosing one idea from a group of tempting prospects remains.
The first draft of the holiday story is barely complete and competing casts are already campaigning in my head. It’s a miracle I ever get a word written.
Queen Tutt reviewed Slave Market and said nice things:
Wow! What a great combination of Sci-fi and Paranormal Romance. The concept of Elemental Dragons living in space and living amongst humanoids and pirate demons is definitely a story you have to read.
“Not here. On Enyo a fertile woman is worshiped. Pleasuring his mate is a warrior’s highest aspiration. However, nothing will happen unless you choose to mate with one of us. You could have any one of a thousand approved breeders.” Dexon grinned at her ruefully.
Long before I began writing erotic romance, I read. I still read many more titles than I write.
My personal book rating system follows:
Author–an autobuy for future releases and backlist–worth rereading; a keeper
More–likely buy of future releases and backlist–engaging but not a keeper
A–well written and enjoyable–worth considering future releases and backlist
B–well written, but not engaging my interest fully enough to seek out other titles by the author
C–poorly written or edited, but compelling enough for me to keep turning pages
DNF–failed to engage me enough to finish the story
A quick review of this years reading proved that I’m reading less than usual (two titles a week). Real life has been busy.
Two titles were discarded without finishing and four were decently written, rating a B, but failed to connect enough for me to recommend them. One new-to-me author scored a more rating and none a C.
The biggest single rating category was author. Around here spring has been cold and wet, necessitating lots of comfort rereading from the virtual keeper shelf.
KevaD is an autobuy for me. If you’re looking for a provocative read check out his latest release: A Demon Affair.
The holiday story is ahead of schedule, so I’m taking a day off and playing with future characters. Searching for images to match the cast in my head is always fun. As I scrolled through my saved pics, I saw some old friends and thought y’all might enjoy seeing the cast of Dalila’s Choice as I imagined them….
Here’s the cover…
Not exactly a match, though the bikini is pretty close
The work in process I’m thinking about is this blog. Five years ago today, I started posting.
When I began blogging, I’d submitted a couple of manuscripts, dreamed of being published, and decided to share my writing journey via via a web log.
As time passed lots changed, I contracted a novel and then another, and another….
I soon learned the writing adventure doesn’t end with that first contract. The more I absorbed about writing craft the more I understood how much I didn’t know. The blog changed too. After the first two years I began experimenting. Sunday Funnies became the first weekly feature. Along with more weekly features came daily blogging.
Just wanted to take a moment to celebrate five years of blogging and to say thank you for visiting. Without readers there wouldn’t be a dangerously sexy blog or any dangerously sexy stories
Siren Book Reviews said: “Evanne Lorraine does a wonderful job engaging the reader with Camille’s Capture. From the beginning, I was enthralled by the detailed build of her galactic world and the new Earthen world and her spin on the different species and warriors. ”
