The Affair is Lee Child’s latest Jack Reacher novel. The events in this story takes place before the rest of his adventures.
The novel is written in first person. My least favorite narrative choice. The style is spare, the plot action driven, there’s little humor, and less romance. And yet, I can’t get enough because Jack Reacher is a compelling hero.

The current manuscript is a contemporary romance, plain but not a bit simple. I’m beginning to think contemporary romance is the literary equivalent of a little black dress. It looks easy, but finding one that does what I want it to do is a challenge close to seeking the holy grail.
I started out with every intention of writing something light and fun. Swampy made rude noises, the Alpha hero started seething, then things got more complicated and a lot darker than I’d planned. But I’m just the factotum around here, the characters are in charge. Although I get credit for all mistakes.
So far, I have resisted killing off anyone, adding a stalker, or giving anyone special powers. Still early days.
A Very Demon Christmas just released last week, but here’s a snippet from A Very Demon Valentines
Nostalgia for all the good times and hairy hunts Tey had shared with Trent, threatened to emasculate him. Blinking back shaming tears, he focused his attention on the pen. For once the submissives’ waiting area was empty. He checked his watch, two thirty-five on a Sunday afternoon — too late for lunch and too early for the night crowd — a good time to die.

From a A Very Demon Christmas!
He kept his tone calm — detached. “I kill male demons who’ve fallen off the grid. Every kill is legally sanctioned and necessary to protect both humans and demons.”
She narrowed her eyes. “That’s how you were injured, k-killing a demon?”
“Yeah, that happens.”

Just a thank-you post to all the wonderful readers who buy my stories, send email, leave comments, and tell their friends about the tales that touched them — I don’t have the words to tell you all how much I’m moved by your support. You make my dreams come true day after day. Readers are the best.
