Six Sentence Saturday

February 25, 2012 | Six sentence Saturday

Next Saturday I’ll post six favorite quotes about writing. This week, the quotes are about reading — the other side of the partnership.

“The things I want to know are in books; my best friend is the man who’ll get me a book I ain’t read.” ~ Abraham Lincoln

“A book is the only place in which you can examine a fragile thought without breaking it, or explore an explosive idea without fear it will go off in your face. It is one of the few havens remaining where a man’s mind can get both provocation and privacy.” ~ Edward P. Morgan

“Reading a book is like re-writing it for yourself. You bring to a novel, anything you read, all your experience of the world. You bring your history and you read it in your own terms.” ~ Angela Carter

“No matter how busy you may think you are, you must find time for reading, or surrender yourself to self-chosen ignorance.” ~ Confucius

“You don’t have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them.” ~ Ray Bradbury

“Anyone who says they have only one life to live must not know how to read a book.” ~ Author Unknown

Whatever format you prefer to read in, books are the passport to other worlds. Feel free to share your most recent reading.

I love reading because it’s the closest you can get to telepathy. You actually get to crawl inside the mind and imagination of another human being. How cool is that?

  2. Evanne Says:

Exactly, Allie! I love visiting other world real or imagined.
