Snippet Saturday

November 24, 2012 | Snippet Saturday

From the new and improved edition of Wicked Business:

Eduardo gave the driver her address, and then closed the partition separating the passenger compartment. The ride was roomy by car standards, but Eduardo took up so much space she could barely breathe.

Then, he loosened his tie, and unfastened the top button of his shirt.

The air in the limo seemed to grow thinner as she watched him from under her lashes, taking in the blue shadow of beard darkening his jaw. Her gaze drifted lower, to where the shirt gapped, revealing a well-defined chest covered in tanned skin and a wisp of black hair.

It was nothing she hadn’t seen before. This time, she was much closer and they were alone. The details were sharper. She was aware of his breathing, and his special scent seemed to grow stronger in the confined space.

He reached for a latch she hadn’t noticed, opening a compact bar, and dropping ice into tumbler. “Can I fix you a drink?”

“Just water, please.” To her delight the words came out cool and even.

A few seconds later, he handed her a glass filled with bottled water, ice, and a slice of lime. Twisting the cap off a long neck beer, he took a healthy swallow.

She watched his Adam’s apple bob up and down, riveted.

Though the limo’s interior had seemed cool when she first entered, now it was very warm, and the temperature just kept going up. Her skin was damp with perspiration and her heart seemed bent on hammering its way out of her chest. She dropped any pretense of being subtle and just stared at him.

“Would you like to see more?” he asked with a wicked grin.

She nodded, not sure she could speak and tried to cool the internal blaze threatening to engulf her by sipping her fancy water.

“I need some incentive.”

“I don’t understand,” she croaked.

“Unbutton your blouse.” His voice was deep and rough. All trace of the super-polite Senor Torres was gone.

For a second, she considered refusing, and putting an end to their dangerous game. When she glanced down, she’d already undone two of her buttons. Her fingers made short work of the rest. Then for good measure, she tugged the smooth fabric free of her skirt.

Carefully, he brushed the sides of the blouse apart.

He’d barely touched her. Still, she burned. She swayed toward him without consciously deciding to do so.

He stared at her small breasts, barely obscured by the lacy camisole.

She didn’t care. She just wanted to see more of him.

Cooperating with her unspoken desire, he unbuttoned his shirt and left it hanging open.

While she was busy admiring the hard planes of his chest, the rippled muscles of his stomach, and the suggestive wedge of black hair that disappeared into his slacks, he caught her face.

He held her gently in place as he leaned in and touched his lips to hers. The kiss was tender, questing. The sensation sizzled throughout her body like an inferno.
