The business of writing

April 30, 2013 | Real life

nostalgia (1)

In a bout of nostalgia, I cruised by the websites of some longtime writer friends. These are women I met on discussion boards and critique groups when I first pursued writing for publication almost a decade ago. Writing is lonely pursuit and this group of dedicated women were wonderfully supportive and encouraging.

Out of the dozen or so I exchanged enough commentary with to consider friends most were eventually published and met with various degrees of commercial success. None have released any titles recently. The reasons are likely as personal and varied as their delightful voices.

John Steinbeck said, “The profession of book-writing makes horse-racing seem like a solid, stable business.

I’m grateful for new friends to commiserate and cheer with, still I miss reading my old friends.
