Reading Report – Betting Hearts

June 29, 2006 Uncategorized

I gave into temptation the other night and bought my first ebook. Betting Hearts by Dee Tenorio. No more Dee books for me – I’m neglecting all my duties and sneaking off to the computer to read every chance I get.

The book is fun. When’s the last time you read a romance that made you laugh? And it is a romance. A lot of contemporary romances seem to be missing the he/she chemistry connection.

Free Book

June 28, 2006 Uncategorized

My very unscientific survey says there’s no interest in Next titles among blog visitors.

How about a Silhouette Bombshell? Ms. Longshot by Sylvie Kurtz is available to the first requester. I hesititate to rate it since it is my first SSB – but I read the whole thing and stayed awake so that earns it five out of ten possible stars right there.

If you want the book email me at evannelorraine at hotmail dot com (changing to conventional punctuation) be sure to put free book in the subject so I don’t delete you.

Character flaws

June 27, 2006 Uncategorized

Oddly enough it is a character’s flaws that endear her to me quicker than anything else. My own character flaws lack that kind of charming redemptive humanity.

I’m shallow. How do I know you ask? I tried to read a Harlequin Next title. The book is charming, well written and entertaining. But being shallow – I’m giving up on it.

There’s no sense of danger, no roller coaster of thrills, no sexual tension. :~

Anyone caring to comment and prove your character and taste in literature is much better than mine is welcome to adopt this worthy little book.

Drop me a line at evannelorraine at hotmail dot com (changing to the conventional punctuation) with your snail mail addy and I’ll ship you the story.

Writing process

June 23, 2006 Uncategorized

When writers talk about how they create a story they divide themselves into groups – plotters, pantsers and somewhere in between.

What pulls you into a book? Plot or characters?

Where do you start a new story? With the plot or the characters?

Kill The Messenger

June 22, 2006 Uncategorized

Before I ever thought of writing I was an addicted reader. I’m reading Kill The Messenger, by Tami Hoag and I’m riveted. The pacing is great and it’s hard to put down. The best compliment I can give an author applies – the story is so compelling I’m not analyzing any of the craft elements.

How about you? What’re you reading?

Villain or Villainess

Uncategorized

After reading a few hundred romantic suspense novels it dawns on me that the bad guy is always male. Is there a rule against a woman antagonist that I don’t know about?
