Life in the secret garden
Camellias come in a wide range blooming almost all year. I don’t know of any summer bloomers. but the gap between late spring and early fall simply gives me a change to appreciate other species.
Of all the lovely camellias, this pale pink remains my favorite. During a mild winter, it starts blooming in December, continuing into May.
Since I can’t count on frost free springs, I cut blossoms regularly.

WIP Wednesday
By the time you all read this, I’m sure I will have figured out a plot for Wicked Business. Right at the moment, I’m tempted to add a natural disaster, an alien invasion, or at the very least a spiteful ex-girlfriend.
Spiteful ex–hmmm. Note to self, may be worth exploring.
The problem is simple, the couple needs more conflict. This is a character problem, because, goals, motivations, and conflicts all arise from the characters’ personalities and backstory–the events, which have shaped them into the people we meet in the story.
The story is a pure erotic romance, but even sexy romps need conflict, story arcs, and in my world, actual plots.
Maybe, if I interview the couple, separately.
This has to be the world’s best job, getting paid for recording my chats with my imaginary friends. What could be better?

Teaser Tuesday
Still obsessing about the Christmas story in my spare time. Here’s the blurb.
Wishing for hot Christmas kisses seemed perfectly harmless, but when Trouble arrives for dinner Jenny learns perfect and harmless don’t always go together. Her impulsive wish leads into her into irresistible temptation. Dangerous desires burn hot enough to evaporate her doubts and melt her heart.
Collin may look like a bad boy and he’s definitely packing a lethal load of pure sexy, but Jenny senses a wounded heart under that dark exterior. When it comes to love, vulnerability may be the most dangerous weapon of all.
Ideas for marketing a sexy romance, with a slightly raw homoerotic subplot are welcome. Suggest away.

4) The average erect penis is five to six inches long

Fan Girl Friday
I have a confession, I haven’t been reading much romance. I’ve found contemporary romances that makes me smile in short supply for quite a few years. Even some my beloved historical authors have wandered off to write women’s fiction or paranormals.
While I enjoy Charlaine Harris’s writing no matter what she chooses writes, I’m not enchanted by Sookie Stackhouse’s series in the same way I am with J.R. Ward’s Black Dagger Brotherhood.
I’ve read a few demon books, but too often it’s more a peeking through the fingers at the train wreck than thrilled with the story world.
As for romantic suspense goes, which is how I became attracted to the romance genre initially, I’m out of sure thing authors. Zilch, zero, nada. Is it because I write it and I’m too critical or have the hard working and amazingly prolific authors simply exhausted the field?
It’s tough to please readers and I’m no exception to that rule. I want the same elements that thrilled me, but I want fresh characters, new twists, and excitement too.
Read any good books lately? Do tell.

Life in the secret garden
This time of year, it’s hard to pick what to look at and what to do in the garden. There’s always something new coming into bud or bloom and there’s always urgent tasks. Weeds emerge even faster than bulbs, every storm brings a fresh crop of debris, and deadheading begins. Grass grows like the weeds, but is too wet to cut more often than not. Some of my favorites aren’t all that showy. Like these tiny scila.

WIP Wednsday
When I first became serious about writing for publication, I read somewhere that it takes about a million words to find your voice. A million words sounded so daunting.
Even back in the day when I rose predawn to get a couple of quiet writing hours in before my day job, I averaged 500 words a day, works out to 150k plus per year, allowing for holidays, vacations, and so forth. Considering that I key in half again as many words as I keep, that’s really over 200k per year.
Looking back, it was year four when I started getting useful feedback, and then sold.
There are those who sold the first word they even entered and who never plot. If that’s you, don’t bother commenting–I already hate you.

Teaser Tuesday
The Christmas story flits through my head every now and then. Yes, I do know it’s spring in the real world. But, I’m still thinking about the story.
If you missed the first chapter I published it last last year, during the holidays as a present for dangerously sexy fans. The first installment is here. The second is here And the final installment here.
To give fair warning, the story is a lot sexier than the initial chapter and there’s a homoerotic subplot. I’m not sure exactly what’s going to become of the story. But, I’m fairly committed to getting it published. It may take a while.
